Rev. Norman Fischer, Jr.

Norman Fischer grew up on a small tobacco and cattle farm in Perryville, KY. Though raised in a devout Catholic family, this son of an African-American father and Filipino mother had no experience with priests of color until his freshman year in college when he became involved in the National Black Catholic Congress.  After graduating from Centre College with majors in psychology and art, he entered St. Mary of the Lake seminary in Chicago where he earned his master of divinity in 2000. He became the first Black priest to serve in the Diocese of Lexington.

Fischer, a devoted member of NBCCC, enjoys preaching, rapping, painting, singing, leading pilgrimages, spiritual healing, and reaching out to youth and their families, creatively spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  Fischer is currently chaplain for Lexington Catholic High School and pastor (since 2006) of historically Black St. Peter Claver Parish (also in Lexington).
