Rev. Monsignor Mauricio West

Mauricio West of Charlotte, NC, has served as vicar general and chancellor of the Diocese of Charlotte, NC, since 1994, upon the arrival of Archbishop William Curlin, former Auxiliary bishop of DC.  In September 2002, upon the retirement of Curlin, West was elected by fellow priests as diocesan administrator, a position he served dutifully for over a year until the ordination of Peter Jugis as the subsequent Bishop of Charlotte in late October 2003.  West continues to serve as vicar general and chancellor for the diocese.

West, a long-time member of NBCCC, is an incredibly humble and virtuous priest.  He lives by the adage “there is no I or me, only we.” Because of such values and in order to inspire the children of Cameroon, Catholic University Institute of Buea (CUIB) inaugurated the CUIB Msgr. Mauricio West Block in Buea, Cameroon in March 2018 — the first CUIB block to be named after a person.  Besides NBCCC, West has served on the boards of Catholic Charities and Queens University in Charlotte, and as Chairman of the St Meinrad Board of Trustees.
