Our new President – Father Kareem Smith
Father Kareem R. Smith is a Roman Catholic priest of the Archdiocese of New York, recognized for his passionate preaching, pastoral leadership, and commitment to fostering spiritual and social engagement within the Church.
Fr. Kareem was ordained to the priesthood on May 26, 2018, at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral by His Eminence Timothy Michael Cardinal Dolan. He completed his priestly formation and theological studies at Saint Joseph’s Seminary in Yonkers, NY, following his undergraduate education at St. John’s University.
Currently, Fr. Kareem serves as the Pastor of Saint Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church in Co-op City, Bronx, NY. His ministry extends beyond parish life; he is the Senior Chaplain for the Pierre Toussaint Scholarship Program and Chaplin for Black Catholics in the Archdiocese of New York.
A dedicated advocate for Black Catholic leadership, formation and flourishing, Fr. Kareem is the President of the National Black Catholic Clergy Caucus (NBCCC) and a Board Member of the National Black Catholic Congress (NBCC), He also serves on the Board of Directors for Iona Preparatory School.
Fr. Kareem has been instrumental in advancing discussions on racial justice and liturgical inculturation within the Church. He has served as President of the National Black Catholic Seminarians Association (NBCSA). He continues to be a sought-after speaker on topics of Black Catholic spirituality, youth engagement, and liturgical diversity across the United States and beyond.
With a heart for ministry, a mind for scholarship, and a vision for a more inclusive Church, Fr. Kareem Smith remains dedicated to serving God’s people with faith, wisdom, and unwavering commitment.
